Fed him last night and the mouse took a bite out of him
So I fed my BP last night, a live mouse as usual, and for the first time the mouse got in a good shot, this is due to the fact that my BP didnt strike as he usually dose on the front of the face. The wound was not bad, and I will keep an eye on it to make sure we dont need a vet visit but I think he will be fine. I may resort to dazing my mouse for him from now on since I have added lots of things to fill up his cage to make him feel more secure. Since my last thread showing off my set up I have added an Accurite to it, as well as switching the one log hide for an identical rock hide, as well as a lava rock with hole for crawling in that he loves.

Take out the decoration and one of the hides when you feed. It'll give your snake a clearer shot at the mouse when he strikes. I strip out everything when I feed live, even for the boa (who is the best hunter).

I slip back one hide while they're constricting, and once they've fed I'll put everything else back in.

Sorry to hear about your snake. I hope he heals up ok. You might try using some Neosporin (without painkiller) to keep it from getting infected. Do you have any pics of the wound itself?

I will post a pic of it tonight, neosporin is a good idea too! Thanks!! :)

I wanted to take a pic of it last night but I didnt want to get bit.

zantedeschia: I have allways done that and the one time I dont this happens, so servers me right, I will never make that mistake again.

A single mouse bite shoudlnt leave any noticable damage. Treat it with neosporin if it is bleeding but dont fret too badly.

When I feed live I watch them during the constrict as about 1/4 of the tme the snake wont get them well enough to prevent the rodent from defending itself. I usually just let the rodent bite my feeding tongs until they give up.

That is what I figured, as in the wild they would get bit all the time. I watched it happen and it was just a small tiny puncture wound. The snake seemed to have a "wheres my next mouse" look about him when I went to attempt a better look at his bite.

Was neat watching him chase it around. My snakes tend to stay in ambush mode and wait till the mouse comes up to them.

exactly what i do. The mice\rats will bite the tongs until there last breath. this prevents them from biting the
