Het Axanthic x Het Axanthic

I have a fairly large collection and have been building to breeding sizes.

My het SK Axanthic pair I got when they were a bit older, and I wait her a few months back, 1490 I thought what the heck. never bothered cooling as I was just going to try and see (plus they are in the basement and in the winter the ambient drops a few anyway, figured this may be enough)

Checked today and Boom she's all bumpy :)

I am tempted to let her incubate the eggs herself, as I have yet to do it and figure she has more knowledge on the subject than i do :)

is this a worthy thing to try? Will I regret it? or do most who let there snakes incubate have success?

You can let her incubate them herself, but be prepared to have a whole year of recovery (aka not being able to use her next season) due to the 2+ months of her not eating due to incubating.

Shawn in my opinion it would be a waste of time.A friend of mine tried this with his het albino pair and the whole clutch died of slowly :(.Unless you can get the enclosure at the perfect temps and humidity i would incubate them instead.

I have never let a mother incubate her eggs. It's not that I have anything against it but I guess I have more faith in the environment in my incubator than in my racks.
I think I might try a maternal clutch or two this year though;) All these years and I have never tried it.

From what I hear about having your snake incubate, is you have to keep the heat and humidity up pretty high for the eggs as the snake will give almost no heat to the eggs like other snakes will. Also as far as the mother not feeding during incubations, I have heard that BP are one of the few breeds that actually "will" leave the eggs and drink and feed during this process.

If You're expecting eggs You need an incubator.

Not all females will incubate their clutches...If I had expected this girl to incubate her clutch I would have lost them.

Good point Jon.....I too have had females abandon their eggs. Not often but I have seen it.....especially with younger or smaller females.

okay maybe I will go the incubator way.

how long after she is lumpy should I expect eggs? I wanna say 60 days but i'm not 100% sure?

Got a pic of her being "lumpy"?

sure I snapped three. mind you she did eat for me a week ago, and one of the lumps may be that. I believe shes 1670grams right now also.
