im looking for a good book!
I have been looking at The Complete Ball Python by Kevin McCurley. Is it worth the 50 buck that it is selling for? I cant find it any cheaper.

Re: im looking for a good book!
Sorry did not know how to get the font thing off...lol:oops:
It is a little outdated as far as new morphs...but seriously the best book I have. My hubby got it for me for Christmas and I could not put it down. It is a must have in my opinion.
Re: im looking for a good book!
Check out Pythons of the World Vol. 2 from VPI. I've heard people say it's more informative than McCurley's book. I don't have McCurley's book myself to compare it to however.
Re: im looking for a good book!
thank you..is it the type of book you keep going back too for more info? or is it a read it and put it back on the shelf type book?
Re: im looking for a good book!
I actually wrote a book on the basic husbandry of BPs (more for beginners than advanced/expert keepers). It details some of the multitude of ways of keeping these guys and goes over everything from picking out your snake to what to do if it gets sick, to housing it, to feeding it and then its got some morph info in the back.
Its called "Keeping Ball Pythons the care and husbandry of python regius in captivity" you can find the link to it on my resources page (here: http://ancientwingreptiles.com/RESOURSES.html) also there is a link to VPI's pythons of the world volume II (INCREDIBLE book, I use it as a resource constantly ).
Version I of KBP is available, but i'm currently in the process of re-editing (which may take me the rest of the year at this rate).
I would say that KBP is more of a go-to resource rather than a one-read book (as i intended it to be a resource). Its got lots of cool pictures (that i took lol). It was meant for a senior project in college but i did end up actually publishing it for the general public. As a side note, almost all the animals are owned by Adam and Kelly of 8ballpythons.com
I do have every ball python book i've ever been able to get my hands on and do enjoy Kevin McCurley's books. I also have a lot of old, and outdated books with poor information and husbandry advice :/
Re: im looking for a good book!
both kevins book and the book from vpi are amazing! vpi is alot more into detail about things. but kevins book is a great starter. i have both by the way and they have been read front to back!
Re: im looking for a good book!
I have Kevin Mc Curley's book and feel that it is a great book. People that have read both usually say that the VPI book is a little better, but it is also costlier. I have purchased many different books on Ballpythons (used at alibris.com) and have found that none that I bought were worth reading. I feel that either the McCurley or VPI book will satisfy your quest for an informational book.
Re: im looking for a good book!
I have Kevin McCurley's book and absolutely love it! Like mentioned, it is a little outdated on the higher morphs, but it has so much more information in there it's still a good reference book. I haven't read the entire thing, but skim through it alot and often reference back to it.
I got it as a Christmas present, but if I hadn't, I would say it's worth $50.
Re: im looking for a good book!
I have Kevin's book Ball Pythons in Captivity, and I really like it. I got mine very cheaply off of Ebay, and it was new.
I also visit Alibris.com, they have lots of good books, and even though they are used, most are in excellent condition and are mostly less expensive.
