    Breeding Pairs
Does anyone happen to have a print out or book/knowledge of what types of ball pythons you have to breed with others to get certain types. I understand this is a very general and also extensive question but wanted to know my options. :) Thanks

Someone else posted a link to this website a while back, I've found it to be super helpful. Enjoy!

Ok :) That helps but now I have another question.... I know what recessive and dominant means but how does that effect the breeding of snakes? What's co-dominant? Basic and combo? Sorry for all the questions!

From basic understanding of bio a co-dom is a trait that is shared by 2 different types of alleles. It shows signs of both genes.
Dom you only need one allele of that gene for it to show and recessive you have to have both alleles for it to show.
Co-dom breeding to me seems comfusing but I think that the co-dom gene are just already together and that is how they figure it out. I think it acts like a recessive gene. But I am not sure. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Here is another helpful website....

    http://ballpython.ca/genetics.html

At the bottom of each category, there is a button that gives you an illustration of Co-Dom, Recessive & Dominant breeding. :snake:

No problem! I'm still a newbie to genetics also :P Just takes time to learn it all... I had a really hard time at first.

Sounds like your snakes have the ability to make some pretty cute babies. Both your mojave & spider can make morph babies just by breeding to a normal. However, your albino (recessive) snake bred to a normal would give you all babies that look normal, but are het for albino. So you would have to wait for them to grow up, and breed your hets back to your albino in order to make more albinos.

If you decide to breed your snakes, be prepared to take care of lots of snakies :P

A co dom gene will give you a visual expression with only one gene, but also has a super that appears when that certain gene is on both of the alleles.

    Example-

A pastel has x gene to make it a pastel. It is bred to another pastel with x gene that makes it a pastel and they produce a super pastel with the x gene from both parents making it XX.

From here, every offspring that is produced by that super pastel will contain at least one of those x genes, much like a visual recessive will throw at least hets.

    Hope this helped.

The best book i've read is by Collete Sutherland (? i think thats how you spell it) They sell them at petco and it is the best care book in the world as far as that goes she lists a lot of gentics and great breeding tips!
