Last night wile feeding I found my self thinking about temps of f/t mice when feeding to my snakes. seance I have just got back into them I haven't had a hole lot of practice with thawing, but found my self playing with my temp gun. Obviously its better for the snake for its meal to be properly thawed and the body warm enough for the snake to seance it wit hits heat pits.
so give me some data.
whats the surface temp of your:
live mice - I checked temp of a couple of live mice I have around, 84-86°F
live rats
f/t mice - the frozen thawed I fed of last night was high 80s low 90s
f/t rats
I am taking into account the temp gun is only taking the surface temp of the animal and not the inside in the case of the frozen rodents.
I'm sure you all have temp guns out there so get shooting.
Whats the minimum temperature of f/t your snakes will take? My guess would be low 80s.
