Anyone know anything about Pygmy pythons?

I have been reading a little about them and am thinking of possibly trying to find a pair. Anyone know of someone breeding them? What the price range is? I have never seen any for sale but I am really liking the idea of trying a pair. They don't seem to be too hard to care for from what I am reading. It sounds like getting hatchlings going may be tough but after that they seem like pretty easy keepers. Thanks for any help.

Ive seen them at LLL but Im never quick to buy from a big broker like that.

I have also seen them on kingsnake in the fall. Just keep looking and doing searches for them.

I'm assuming you mean anthill pythons and not childrens' pythons?

Anthills are the smallest python in the world, are pretty hardy in captivity and can be kept like your average terrestrial python except on a smaller scale. I was looking into them just a short while ago and decided my budget didn't have it in it, I was looking at a few breeders' websites and they were in the ~$500 range.. Certainly more expensive than childrens', which are a slightly larger alternative that are closely related.

I sure wouldn't mind having a pair in my collection.

I have been slowly phasing out my boids but am holding onto my antaresia, including my 1.2 trio of anthills.

I've seen them as low as $450.00 but $600.00 is about average now a days.

Stimson's pythons - a close relative of the anthill are becoming more and more available at a third of the cots or less. They get just a tad larger and are a bit more bulletproof in terms of husbandry lapses.

I'd love to get some myself, but I'm hesitant to get any of the Anteresia because I've heard so many rumors of cross breeding between the species that I'm not sure I'd ever be completely sure that what I bought were 'pure' animals. At least I've heard this is a problem with the Childrens and the Spotteds, I don't really know anything about the other species and don't know how you could key them out to be sure you actually got what you paid for.

Combos are also starting to appear in that species. One hatched out a beauty which recieved the name 'Pearl'. :)

All of the antaresia Genus are great snakes. I have all 4 species and love them. There have not been as many crosses made in the past as you might think. At one time they were all considered childrens pythons. Most of the "childrens" pythons that came into the country at first were actually what is now called a spotted python. Very few of the other 3 species ever came in so to have pure ones you must know were they came from and if the bloodline traces back to the founders. If you know the history on them it is not hard super hard to find pure ones. As for pygmies I have never heard of any crosses with them and of the 3 species they are the most distinct and easy to tell apart from the others. I would not hestitate to recomend pygmies as long as you get established ones (babies can be Nightmares) and you are going to pay 400-550 each for feeding babies.
