    Snake/Cat ??????
Hey everyone I got just a quick question. Last nite we decided tp go to the Spca and we rescued a nice looking cat under 2yrs old. I'm not a cat person but my fiancee wanted one so I figured what the hell. My question is will my snakes be ok with the. Cat roaming the apartment meaning is the cats scent going to make my snakes unable to hold. I know my one goes insane as soon as I walk through the front door with mice .

i have two cats as well as ferrets. the cats roam... the ferrets don't. i don't have any problems with my ball and them as long as i haven't handled the cats or ferrets prior to handling my snake.. same as with mice... wash their scent off of your hands. usually if im going to handle my snake, i make sure i havent touched the other animals.. i even sometimes put on a fresh t-shirt if the cats have been on me.. the cats dont usually see the snake at all. if the snake is out i make sure the cats are locked in another room with food, water and litterbox. hope that helps ya.

I have two cats - one sits in a chair close to the snakes while I'm cleaning them. They don't see a cat as prey. I'd be more concerned about the snake than the cat if the cat has a high prey drive.

almost all the snakes i've had don't care about my cats. One of my cats has a very high prey drive and will go after anything, the other one could care less. The snakes are fine. Except one.

I had a female possible double het snow i rehomed because i couldnt even remove the covering over the front of the rack without her slamming into the tub with defensive strikes. Once i removed her from my home she was as docile as any other ball python. It was the scent of the cats that was setting her off. She bit me, and tried to bite me or anything else that was near her multiple times. It wasn't safe having her around because of the cats (they can really sneak up on you when they feel like it) so i chose to rehome her rather than have her constantly stressed like that.

Just be aware that 99% of the time your snakes may not care about your cat, there will be the 1% that will care.

My cats have no problem with my snake and vice versa. The cats mainly ignore the snake unless she's cruising the tank. Even then the cats lose interest fairly fast.
