Too Cold At Night, I NEED Suggestions!

It gets below 70F in my room if I do not have the A/C on. I normally turn the A/C on to about 80F before I go to bed. I'm not sure how else I can make the room warm. It also gets below 70F in the TV room where my Kingsnake is housed, so I'm afraid he'll get another RI. And since it gets cold in that room, the Beardie's tank gets colder inside because of the glass, so that is why she sleeps in my room on my long pillow that is against the wall. I think the A/C will also give my Hognose a draft since the tank is parallel from the vent, so that's another RI. I checked all of the Ball pythons' mouths and I don't see any signs of an RI, so they are fine for now. I'm still very worried, so I'm not sure what else to do. Any suggestions?

ceramic heat emitters create a higher ambient heat. or light bulbs (45 watt should be fine). there are also radiant heat panels, or space heaters.

speaking of warmth, gradient, heat, etc...

I just redid my garage, i.e., the back wall, both sides and the ceiling (I framed it, drywalled it and put insulation in the walls.

I also put in 3 vents along the bottom of the garage to control air flow, but the issue I am having is heating the garage to approx 80 degrees, which is what I want to achieve.

Does anyone else do the garage thing? Any pointers? I should also add the garage is detached and has a normal garage door, which further complicates issues.

I have no idea in regards to this Brandon...but can you install a heater in the garage?? It certainly would not have to be the size of a house heater...but something kind of along those lines. Space heaters kind of freak me out a little.

To the OP....I just crank the heat in my house to 78. ?? I understand not everyone can do that though. Cinderbirds idea of a light sounds like an awesome idea in the evenings.

I upped my ceramic night/black lamps from 50 watts to 100, and it made a HUGE diffrence. Now I am wishing I went for 75 watts. It really heated things up. I'm in Minnesota and its -5 degrees outside, so I had to do something. I don't know if your BP's are in tubs or cages. Mine are in cages and this worked too well almost.

I have built snake rooms in the past and a good way to heat them is with oil filled radiant heaters. You can purchase these at Home Depot. One would probably do it but one on each end of the garage would be best. Install a ceiling fan to keep the air circulating. Coolio - one of these heaters turned on low at night would do the trick for you as well. Good luck!

brandon you can also get the styrofoam insultaion and cut/glue it tothe indise of the garage door to help keep heat in .. I wouls say the blue kind at lowes/ home depot. and some liquid nail should hold it . I use a oil filled psace heater and on the low setting ( only got a 7x9 room in a trailer ) it keeps the room about 80-83 depends on the how often the trialer heater kicks on.

Tiffany, I t sounds like a space heater may be your best bet in this case. Also, if you are concerned about the air vent blowing on you tanks you can try taking a piece of cardboard and kind of folding it into a squared U shape and thumb tacking it over the vent so tha it re-directs the airflow away from the tanks.

Brandon, When I first moved into my house I had the same problem with the garage being cold. I happened to find a garage door insulation kit at my local home improvement store. It was basically thin, precut sheets of polystyrene insulation, some sheet metal screws and some large flat washers to go under the screw heads. All I had to do was cut the hinge notches and trim the legnths to fit the door sections. It took me about 2 hours to completely finish it. This was several years ago so I'm not even sure if they still make the kits. If not, you could still just buy the individual sheets of insulation, screws and washers and just cut the stuff yourself...

If you don't want to cut everything yourself, I found this kit by Owens-Corning. It is listed on Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware websites...
