Tip-Tail Shedding

So I've been having some problems with my young JCP male and my growing BCI male. Each time during their shed, they have a nice complete and full shed except for the tip of their tail. This didn't concern me the first few times, and soaking didn't help get these tips off for some reason, but I overlooked one shed in my BCI males tail (didn't see that the very tip still had stuck shed) and now I'm pretty sure it has some permanent damage to it, which makes me feel horrible. It's not infected or anything, but it cut off some circulation to the tip and took off some of it.

The JCP's tail is starting to look a bit damaged as well, though not nearly as bad as the BCI. It seems like the JCP's is getting more damage from me picking at it and rubbing it after a soak than anything as of yet. The JCP has only had two sheds with me, both resulting in this. The BCI didn't do this up until the last few sheds.

Both humidity is good, JCP on cypress mulch and paper towel combo in a tub, BCI in a tank with aspen and gets sprayed daily. Both eat great (especially the BCI, he's a machine) and have a good set-up and husbandry.

Could this just be the winter months? I never see this in my balls or corns. :(

I would begin trying to get that shed off. SOAK, run through towel, soak, run through towel, on and on and on.

Last shed for my JCP I soaked him 3-4 times in a row and it wouldn't come off until I picked at it (which I hated doing).

If this has been going on for some time, it's possible there's several layers built upon the tail tip, and that's why it's resistant to soaking. I know picking is unpleasant, but so is permanent damage, and I think you really do need to get that stuff off ASAP.
