do your ASF's waste a lot of food ?

I've got blocks of wood for them to chew on but they still keep chewing up the food in the hopper and not eating it. they eat some of it but they chew up and waste more than they eat.

thanks for the link mike, I haven't gone through the whole thread yet but I may just try out the hog feed if I can get my hands on some since its cheaper.

I was just about to put some wheels in the tubs since I figured it might keep them busy instead of just chewing up the food.

If you are producing large numbers, wheels are a HUGE mistake. I say this because they are a major pain to keep up with, and very expensive because they will litterally wear them out making you have to buy more.

My experiences have shown they are also much more interested in the wheel then the kids.

If they have the wheels and then you remove them all hell will break loose. they will be mad at you and in my experiences will kill babies and constantly slam the water bottles against the glass.

    hi Mike ,

do you breed regular rats as well?
I was just wondering if the regular rats waste a lot of their food as well.

I may try breeding some of those as well since the ASF's take so much longer to mature.

I just don't know if I'll be able to take the extra stink that comes with domestic rats.
