    Thermostat Poll
I’m looking into better thermostats. I would like to take a poll to see what everyone thinks. Of course there is a huge price difference, but please explain why you would choose the one you choose to help me understand what might be a better choice

    Johnson Controls
    Ranco
    Helix
    Herpstat ND

I have Herpstat ND's on my racks. Spyder robotics has excellent customer service, I think the prices fare better than Helix units. I dont think you can go wrong with either Helix or the HS, I just prefer the HS.

I use herpstat's also and I have not had any problems. I have not tried the helix.

I've got helix, johnson, and ranco thermostats running over here. The johnson and ranco are pretty much the same, except you can buy the johnson from RBI with a night drop module. They also make a clicking noise as they turn on and off, so if you think that might be a bother, you may want to go with the helix or herpstat. Otherwise they're all good thermostats and will keep your temperatures where you need them.

I used to have only Helix, then I tried the Herpstat pro and fell in love. Since then, I switched everything to Herpstat.

Helix was good for one or two racks, but only has one temp probe. With the Pro, I have 4 probes and plug-ins for 4 separate racks. Everything can be tweaked, and I can do night drops without having to buy an extra piece of equipment.

Haven't tried the others on the list.

I went with the Ranco because they were in my price range. I bought them from Reptile Basics at the Raleigh Expo and Rich took the time to explain them and answer my questions...

I understand the whole night drop thing but is there a way to actually shut off\on at certain times? For example; I have two Bearded Dragon tanks. Now I could def use the HerpStat Pro so it could keep the correct temps on the heated side. But their lights go off at 8pm and turn back on at 6am. Instead of using a night drop with the dragons, can I set it to turn off\on at certain times?

You can do that with a heavy duty appliance timer. Just be sure that the timer can handle the amount of watts that your heating elements will be drawing.
