killer bee help...

my goal is a killer be ...

i read super pastel+spider will give you this.. is there another way like bumblebee and spider or pastel ?

Super pastel X spider will give 100% pastels, 50% of those should be bumblebees, NO killer bees

To make a killer bee you could cross:
Bumblebee X Bumblebee
Bumblebee X Pastel
Bumblebee X Super pastel
etc....

Both parents must have pastel in them to produce a killer bee

Nope - super pastel X spider will only you 50% bumblebees and 50% pastels. Super pastel is homogeneous so all offspring are only hets (or just pastels). So the easiest way to make killers is pastel X bumblebee.

Bumblebee x Bumblebee would give you some dead eggs and therefore the worst odds of getting a killer bee. A "super" spider is a deadly gene. For the price of that pair you could get a Bumblebee x Super Pastel which would obviously give you the best odds, about 12.5%. Also you would get no normals, just pastels, super pastels, bumblebees and the 1:8 chance for killer bees.

David, I am trying to get a handle on bp genetics, so I was wondering if you could give more detail on a bumblebee x super pastel cross.

I used a wizard and got 25% each: pastel, bumblebee, super pastel and killer bee. I have no idea how to attempt it manually with a Punnet square. I can do simple recessives and dominants that way, but get lost when the co-doms are added in. :confused:

Genetics is about 100% and 50/50's.

Homozygous (Super) X Normal = 100% Heterozygous

Heterozygous X Normal = 50% Heterozygous 50% Normal

50% of the genetics come from mom, 50% from dad.

Spider (S) X Normal (N) = S, S, N, N

Pastel (P) X Normal (N) = P, P, N, N

Bumblebee (SP) X Normal (N) = to make it easier, start with one gene (S) which gives us S, S, N, N and then each of those has a 50/50 shot of also carrying the Pastel gene. SP, S, P, N.

Super Pastel (PP) X Normal = P, P, P, P 100% of offspring inherit the P.

So add a P to SP, S, P, N = SPP, SP, PP, P

Killerbee, Bumblebee, Super Pastel, Pastel
