Probe placement while using a RHP?
I have a normal Reptile Basics 4x2x2 cage, and was wondering where the best place to place the thermostat probe when using a radiant heat panel. I bought the cage before Rich started cutting a slot for probe on the bottom of the cage. I tried taping the probe to the bottom, inside of the cage, but the temp is off when the snake lays on it.

That's the reason why I GAVE UP on RHP's in my cages.
I bought 6 or so of them between RBI and Pro Products....
NEVER got one to perform to my liking, and I tried EVERYTHING.
I sold em all off.
If you find a good way, let me know, I'd be interested.

Thanks, I have one in my arboreal cage, and it works great. I placed the probe about two thirds up the cage pointing out from the back to the front of the cage. I don't think this will work for a terrestrial cage though...

This is how I set the probes on my enclosures. I drilled a hole about 1 ½ to 2 inches from the bottom on the back under the panel to pass the probe through. I try to set the probe so that it doesn’t touch anything (off the bottom of the enclosure). I am also using a heat pad under the hot hide. I got the enclosure set up on some 1 x 1’s; you can just barely see them in one of the pic’s. This gives me some space for the mat and the probe for the hot hide. The probe you see hanging down from the top is for a thermometer so I can see my ambient temp at a glance. The back of the enclosure will maintain a little higher temp then the front.
