Using a hovabator with a thermostat?
Last year I used a hovabator to hatch out eggs with very little problems. My son and I only have a few clutches to deal with this year and last year (hopefully more for years to come). Anyway at the very least I will need to replace the waffle in it this year (so I have heard), but I have also heard that a hovabator can be operated on a thermostat. How? and what do I need to do toe convert it from the norm?

Why do you need to replace it? If its still able to hold the temp at the correct setting its still working.

Just heard the waffle should be replaced every year. Is that not true?

When i used them i never replaced anything.So if its still able to hold the heat at the proper setting your good to go :gj:.

Going back more than a few years, I used them and never replaced anything.
But do what you feel comfortable with.

Waffle? You mean the wafer thermostat? That should be replaced yearly, yes, if you use it. I personally wouldn't use a wafer thermostat for something as touchy as ball python eggs. Just hook it up to a herpstat or helix instead.

iIf worry( or don't trust the waffle tstat) just set it pot stay on . and plug the entire unit into a thermostat and set it to your desired setting and just run the probe into the container.. this way it kicks on and off at your programmed tstat setting and no guessing with the waffle . I am goingo t do this when I can finally feel eggs in my Bp het pied. I will set this up as so and use one of the smaller tstats for it to controll the temp .

Have you ever used a hovabator? I used them and hatched out ball python eggs and corn snake eggs.I NEVER had one problem and NEVER replaced the wafer.

I used an hovabator for a couple of years to hatch gecko and tortoise eggs, unfortunally it suddendly had a problem with the waffer thermostat and cooked 10 sulcata eggs. Personally I do not trust those incubators.
Replacing the waffer thermostat on a yearly basis is for precaution porpouses and of course it is not necesary mean that if you do no do this, your incubator is going to fail.

Are you sure it was the hovabators fault?
