    Need a good on/off thermostat
Just like the title says, i need a good on/off thermostat to control the electric/oil heater in my reptile building. I have never looked into buying one before as all of my current stats are proportional, but I dont want to spend that much if I dont have to. If the prices of the stats you recommend are close to a proportional, I might just order another herpstat and use it in on/off mode. Just looking for what is available and thoughts on them. Thanks in advance.

I like the Johnson Controls A419. http://www.reptilebasics.com/johnson-a-419.html It is rated for 1500 watts. I have never put that rating to the test, but the ones I have running my gecko and quarantine racks are workhorses. I hear that the Ranco's are good also. http://www.reptilebasics.com/ranco-etc-111000.html

I think you might have a hard time finding a proportional that will handle an electric heater. Helix and Herpstat are only 500 watts. You will kill them with a space heater.

im using a ranco... Works well... with a oil heater I would be worried about low power handling ability of proportional thermostats.

Thanks to both of you. For whatever reason I had not even thought about the power rating. Either one looks like a good choice, and I wouldn't imagine that the wiring would be difficult.

The Ranco's are designed for heavy duty use and are rated at like 1200 watts. You can get them pre-wired or not at RBI...
