    Why so addictive?????
Why is the collecting of herps so addictive???? Me personally growing up I had plenty of different herps from turtles to an iguana (RIP Taz)... I was never allowed to have a snake. About a year ago I was out and bought my first snake kept it in the basement of my grandmothers house. Then I started looking online and found out about morph and thats when it all went downhill ...I ordered my 2nd and 3rd snake online (pastel and hetalbino) then I moved out about 2 months ago and that is when I bought my boa which, dont tell the balls , I am just in love with my boa. Not saying I dont love the BP's but the boa i just cant explain. in between all of that I got 2 corn snakes and now Im looking to buy a dumeril. Its getting crazy my fiancee is getting pissed at me. The best thing i ever read on here someone wrote i believe 100%. My favorite snake is my next one lol . So why , why is it such an addiction. I dont plan on breeding well not right now lol

Ive tried to figure this out many times. Snakes are just fascinating creatures and when you learn that there are different morphs... Oh jeez! The addiction just sets in!

I think once the bug gets you, you're a life long addict and never will be able to truly get away. We'll always need our snake fix!

When I first started researching snakes I saw the racks for sale and I thought, "Why would anyone need one of those in their house?" I figured they were for pet shops or pro breeders.
Even though I only have one normal BP I understand now. :D

Good question! I think part of the addiction involves there being so many different beautiful morphs available, and you want to have a nice, varied collection, whether you intend to breed them or not. The other thing that comes to mind is that snakes are really pretty low-maintenance as far as pets go, so we always know we can take on one more, and it won't be that much work. Between my own snake collection and the hatchlings I still have for sale, I have close to 80 herps right now, and it's really pretty manageable. But can you imagine having 80 dogs, cats, horses or any other more high-maintenace critter? An addiction to those types of critters would be unsustainable, financially and in respect to your time. I think we let ourselves become addicted to herps, because it is rewarding and is actually pretty sustainable for the most part.
