    My mice setup
I thought I would share my mice containers. They aren't the best but they work.

I used an Iris 16 or 17 qt tub and did the ventilation like i've seen on other threads. The food hopper is a bit small but it makes me check on them everyday to top it off. I use a Volkman Rat and mouse gourmet cause I can't find Mazuri locally and I think they seem to like the seeds, pellets and nuts kind of mix. There was a 1.4 mice in there but one female turned into a baby stealer so she got her own 6 qt and another female somehow got trapped behind a cardboard box hide and died. Still really don't know how that happened. Now theirs 12 babies in there that should be weened but I don't quite know when they are ready.

Heres the baby stealer. She has 7 babies of her own that are starting to eat the food by themselves. Like the hopper on this cage. I think I'm going to add more ventilation to both cages.

    C and C welcome :P

    not to shabby

But ditch the food. that food is not nutritional enough for breeding mice at all. Doesnt give the mothers nursing enough nutrients during and after pregnancy.

If you cant get Mazuri try and look for Kent rodent feed.

another thing with mice is with wood shavings whether its pine or aspen SMELLS more. I switched to pelleted pine from equine found at TSC

seed mixes are terrible for rodents. they are full of fat and not enough nutrition. See if you can order mazuri (sp) over the net or something. For rats there is also something called suebees mix, you can find the recipe online but i don't know how it works for mice. the only issue with the suebees is that the rodents can pick out what they like and not get all the nutrition they need.

I'm about out the volkman stuff so I'll look around for the kent.

Yeah the aspen does nothing for the smell lol. Wouldn't pine be bad cause the oils could get on the fur then be ingested by the snake? Or is that cedar? Just curious

rodents kept on pine will not harm your snakes at all.

The problem with mazuri is that it's so expensive and only carried by a store that's a good 45 minute drive, and I can't order online. I feed hamster/gerbil food and haven't really had any issues.

if you want to separate them to let them grow to size best to do it at 3-4 weeks old.

I personally never seperate to keep my mice population up so i have all sizes available. But if your just starting out i dont suggest this or you will be over ran
