Breeding balls for the first time...
Im new at ball breeding but have been breeding geckos/lizards for 10+ years. I have done a ton of research on this first, but still a bit confused on the timing of the events. I have a 2500gr normal female that was locked with a male pastel(800 gr) last week and this lock went on for over 24hours. HE was pulled after he was done locking and ate fine for me, she on the other hand has not eaten since and has been a regular eater for quite some time. Im not worried about her missing the meals but curious how many times i should pair them and what to look for next, I appreciate everyones help and time.
Re: Breeding balls for the first time...
since no one else answered
I have bred a few times ( this past got a bumblebee :))
keep pairing them up, sometime late spring I believe the male will lose interest then just wait
there are a few things to watch for
her coiling around water bowl
turning over
then the bulge
shed then glow
then eggs
she may eat from time to time but then later into it she wont eat
Re: Breeding balls for the first time...
So keep on breeding them until i see one of those events and then stop. Is it possible she will lay before spring? Im guessing any one of the locks could be a success so just curious if the time will vary upon laying by which lock is the key one...lol I appreciate your help.
Re: Breeding balls for the first time...
she will probably lay late spring and in august or so... they should hatch... correct me if im wrong
Re: Breeding balls for the first time...
I've only bred once. This is my second season. I pair up until I see the pre-lay shed after ovulation. Last season, I began pairing in late September and got a pre-lay shed on February 23rd. I didn't get eggs until May 4th. Of course, that is not a normal time period between shed and eggs. I believe normal time is about 30 days, though it can go a bit longer. My female stopped eating as soon as she began breeding. I'd keep pairing them until you see ovulation then a pre-lay shed.
