Can this be pluged into a helix to make a walk in incubator?
Re: Can this be pluged into a helix to make a walk in incubator?
I do not own a helix, so do not know the maximum wattage, but I tried this on my Herpstat and blew the fuse. Sadly, the Herpstat fuse is soldered in, so it is still broke. Make sure that your helix allows for the amount of wattage of the heater. I beleive the heater you posted is 1500 watts.

Too much wattage for a Helix.
Re: Can this be pluged into a helix to make a walk in incubator?
A helix canīt handle those watts, but here a couple of thermostats that do ..
1. Jhonson thermostat
These thermostats Have a 1500 watt capacity MAXIMUM capacity, digital readout, and maintain their setting after a power failure. They are very similar to the Ranco ETC's. Now available with an optional black PVC stand (see Thermostat Stand) to help reduce clutter and keep your thermostat securely mounted.
2. Kkontrols thermostat
These are very cheap (about $40), reliable and can also handle 1500 watts
You can wire an Helix to a current swithc (I not sure about this name), to use wattage heater

We have had some trouble finding a thermostat for our walk in incubator that works , Helix DONT work it blows the fuse, Rancos stop working after a While, have no clue why. Now we are going to use a Helix 1500 Watt System I know people use these and they work. I think you have to order they threw email, because they are not on thier website.
Hope this helps!:gj:

Something to consider. My oil filled heater states it must be plugged directly into the wall socket.

As the Sloan's stated, as long as you are using a Helix 1500 Watt system, you can use that. I have 2 1500 watt systems, and have been using them for over 5 years. I have one on my incubator that is controlling flexwatt, and I have one that is plugged into an oil filled heater that is heating my baby room. I am ordering another one now to run a seperate oil filled heater in my new walk in incubator. It is a great thermostat, and very robust.

that would be a relay

Yes you can use a relay to make any one of those controllers work.I can explian how if you want.
