    Feeding pinky rabbits?
So a few days ago I put an ad on craigslist looking for anyone who was breeding mice or rats in my area that could supply me with some for my bp's. So last night I get an email from a guy saying he breeds rabbits and offered me a pretty good price on pinky rabbits. The size would be about right for my two adult females and it is quite a savings compared to frozen rats from petco or having some shipped. My question is I have never heard of feeding rabbits to bp's. Do you guys think it would be okay to do so or should I keep trying to find a cheeper way to get rats? Thanks in advance!

I'd be afraid if the guy for some reason stopped breeding rabbits, the snakes may be hard to switch back to rats. Other than that i don't see it hurting anything.

I would be worried that it would imprint only on rabbits. Are you sure you are going to have a constant source of proper sized rabbits for the 30+ years your snake will live? What if you have to relocate the snake? It will be much harder to find a home for a snake that only feeds on rabbits.

I have heard of people feeding rabbits! My local reptile store sells them frozen!

For a size reference, I checked the Rodent Pro website and their smallest rabbits are 20-30 days old and weigh 226-336g. I would think if you are going to try it then you would definitely need to get a 5-10 day old, depending on the weights of the pinky's and your snakes. But, as was already mentioned, if you switch them to rabbits and then you loose your source, they may not want to switch back....

Thanks everybody, I hadn't thought about the snake imprinting on rabbits, that's definately something to think about. The guy didn't give me exact weights but I told him I wouldn't be able to use anything more then about 350g and he said he could do that. Also somewhat surprisingly the price he quoted me was less then rodentpros prices. Overall I was trying to find a source other then petco to buy rats from but if he stops breeding and I have to start buying rabbits and have then shipped, it will end up costing me more then I might want.

My biggest girl is about 2600g so her 10% would be 260. My two other girls are a little bit smaller then her but I'm not gonna do it unless he can get me the right sizes.
