Neither glass nor plastic will prevent mites. What will prevent mites is making sure that if you handle anyone else's animals - a friends, a pet stores, a snake show's - that you head straight to your bathroom when you get home, and take a shower, and immediately wash your clothes (in case any of those animals had mites and you carried any home on you - or eggs on you).
Also, you should quarantine any new animals in a separate part of your home if you add more snakes, for a minimum of 30 days, but I prefer 60.
I find plastic to be easier to maintain proper heat and humidity.
Newspaper, cypress mulch, aspen - they're all fine to use and it's up to you and your preference (and in some cases, the preference of your animal - ie, if an animal isn't eating on paper, you might want to change them to aspen - thanks to BG for that tip).

I'd go with a tub. All of my balls are in tubs and do great in them. You do loose some visibility with plastic but balls are display animals anyways. Plus they're very cheep and come in many different sizes. Newspaper works great but you can use other types of bedding like aspen. If you want the cage to be "nice" looking go with a bedding like aspen, if not newspaper will do the trick.

if you have multiple :snake:'s go with a rack system with tubs if you just have one animal I would display it.... If you are doing a display setup there are several pretty and safe bedding options... For my snakies in the rack system they get shredded paper works nice and the cost is well nothing....
