My 09 girl feeding on rat fuzzy/pups will be in feeding mode pretty much right after feeding. I feeder her every 3 days and she's constantly on top of her hide or with her head out of it. The first time I found her completely in her hide I had to double check she was in the cage and hadn't escaped. She's feeding on feeders within the 10-15% recommendations and has actually taken an rat pup as much as 20% of her weight so the meals are plenty for her. I assume she just within her peak growth as she is only a few months old and will take any meal offered.

oh okay! well i dont really know how old mine is but shes about 3 1/2 ft more or less and when i got her she was pretty skinny and being fed only about 1 mouse per week so i started uping her feeding to 3 mice every 5 or 6 days is that okay? Should i feed her more? her girth is only about the size of an adult mouse and i dont really know what size rat to feed her or if shell take it! but once i feed her again imma try rats she hasnt missed a feeding yet so hopefully shell take it ^^ but does anyone know what size rat to feed her and if she doesnt take it how many mice should i give her?
    thanks! :D

A rat pup is equal to an adult mouse so you may want to start with that! At 3 and a half feet long she should be eating small rats. You may want to try 2 rat pups per feeding after you get her switched. Just go with one rat pup per feeding to get her started. You may try keeping the rat in a small container with a mouse so the scent of the mouse gets on the rat. This may help her in eating a rat. Also prescent the room by leaving the rat close to the tank for a couple hours. This will get her really hungry and she should eat right away!

Do you know how old the snake is or how much it weighs? Weight is a really good way to track growth (or no growth for that matter) and helps to determine what size feeder to feed.

I am making the assumption that your snake is not a baby anymore. If that is the case, she should be eating small rats by now. Get a kitchen scale and give her a weigh :)

she weighs 932grams i dont think thats heavy enough but i dont really know lol i got her a month and almost a week and the guy i bought her from said she was 3 years old so yeah shes not a baby any more ive been feeding her 3 adult mice every 5 days and she gained some weight but still skinny. so i should be feeding her small rats? how many just one? and thats a good idea putting the rat into a container with the mouse to get its sent lol
thank you guys for replying! :D

She could easily take a small rat. I would start her on one of those a week. My small rats weigh between 70-80 grams. 3 adult mice is about the same amount of food but feeding one prey item is easier on you and the snake. It takes a lot of energy to strike and constrict 3 mice every 5 days rather than one rat once a week.

    Hi,

Normally people who are feeding multiple prey items do it in one sitting - they wait until the snake adjusts its jaws and "resets" so to speak then offer the second prey item.

I'm not sure I would disturb the snake if it had been several hours since it ate - especially if you feed in a seperate container or anything.
