    I have a comment.

Awesome monitor!!! I am not very familiar with monitors, but it looks like a water monitor. Is that right?

one thing i would change is the paper towel. With their claws he will tear that up fast. might want to look into cyprus mulch and or eco earth coconut husk.

Also look into covering 3 sides of the tank to help make it more enclosed and secure to him

all ready done. i took theese pics right when i got him. he's all setup and good to go. i cant wait to start taming him.
no its not a water monitor. close though. he's an ornate nile monitor. i was told he was a blue ornate nile monitor. not sure about that but if you saw him in person you would understand calling him that. he's VERY blue in person. he looks like he's made from denim. VERY VERY excited about this little guy.

That is exactly what I have, a little Blue Ornate Nile Monitor. I use the excavator clay for my substrate though, it holds their burrows very well. Very nice monitor by the way.

That's Varanus niloticus, not Varanus ornatus. There are too many rows of oscelli on the back between the shoulder and rear legs. There are only 3-5 rows on Varanus ornatus. Also the tongue is dark. Ornates have a pink tongue.

    Nice looking little monitor, though.

I would get it out of that tank ASAP if you plan on taming it. Coming in from above is going to get you the "Holy crap! - Here comes a swooping predator!" reaction and your little gem will be tucked away in its hide before you can say "What the..."

Once your monitor is trusting of you, there is no better feeling in the world.

Oh, by the way, what are you going to house it in in 3 months when it has outgrown that tank?
