Temp & Humidity not right! HELP!
Hello, Everyone, Well I have my normal bp in a tank and today was the first day that has been super cold here in California in this month & the weather man says its going to be like this for a while...outside its in the low 50's & I can't seem to get the right temp for my bp... im using a UTH and its plug in into a thermostat...I set it to 90 degrees but it only goes up to 75* so I bought a heat lamp which increases it to 85* which is good but now the problem is that my snake is currently in a shedding cycle & as we all know heat lamps are humidity sucking machines...so I don't now what to do...any of you guys that have any tips it will be greatly appreciated...Thanks
Re: Temp & Humidity not right! HELP!
Get a small tupperware container. Cut a whole in the top. Put a relatively wet paper towel in it and put it on the warm side.
When I used a tank, I'd keep a humid hide on the warm side and anytime my snake went into shed, he'd climb into the hide and stay there until shed.
It's probably the easiest thing to do instead of messing with misting hourly and changing things in the tank.

Hi,
Have you insulated the tank at all?
What happens when you simply turn up the thermostat?

Re: Temp & Humidity not right! HELP!
Just turn up the thermostat. The probe should be on the outside measuring just the UTH so you can turn it up as much as you want until the temps inside the tank are desirable.

I dont know what you mean by insulated?
And about turning up the thermostat, I've tried it and only goes upto 80* but thats still low temp so I need the heat lamp
Re: Temp & Humidity not right! HELP!
insulated by getting foam board and wrapping 3/4 sides of your tank with it. Its in one of the stickies.
Im having problems too with just my air temps in my tubs with this sudden cold weather

Hi,
Yep, I meant putting foam board or something similar on the bottom, back and two sides of the tank - you can even add it over the top as long as you pay attention not to get it too close to heating elements.

Re: Temp & Humidity not right! HELP!
What thermostat are you using? Move the probe further away from the heat source and you'll be able to turn it up more. My ReptiTemp 500R does the exact same thing, it has to be on max setting to keep the UTH at the right temp. This is fine most of the time, as max will keep it from 91-93, but if the temp drops significantly, I have to fight to keep the temps above 89.
Re: Temp & Humidity not right! HELP!
Make sure your room temps are consistant. Its more importatnt than most people think. If your room temps move alot your thermostat will fight and might not be able to keep up. If you need to increase the humidity in your tank you can throw a damp/wet towel on top(2/3) during shed cycles and you should get a 15-20% bump in hum. Also , dbl check your temps with a temp gun. Your warm side, cool side and snakes temps. Sometimes (believe it or not) your therm might be off. Its happened to me.
