Vermiculite where do you get yours
Hey all. I live in philadelphia pa and I cant find it anywhere. Home depot seemed to discontinued carrying it as well as lowes. So I was wondering where do you get yours maybe somewhere online?
Re: Vermiculite where do you get yours
You can get Hatchrite from kingsnake.com usually, I haven't used it yet but I heard it's foolproof and am looking foward to needing some in a couple of months =). Being as last time I was in Philly I didn't see too many farms lol so I would probably not go crazy looking for Vermiculite there. But if you really want it try looking online for aggriculture supply places they will have it for sure.

Only place close to me that stocks straight vermic is a seed/plant shop. so maybe try some local gardening stores. make sure u get straight vermic tho, and not the stuff with fertilizers and stuff added.
Hatchrite is awesome too.

This past year I used Hatchrite for 13 clutches and had no issues whatsoever.

Make sure you get the vermiculite WITHOUT fertizer.

Any greenhouse or nursery will have vermiculite, as well as real hardware stores -- not Home Depot or Lowes (although they might, and I have bought vermiculite from Lowe's and even Walmart before) necessarily, but a real actual hardware store.

This last season I used straight perlite (without fertilizer) - just VERY lightly moist to the touch. Too dry is better than too wet - you can always SLOWLY adjust the amount of water. I just added water and mixed until it was slightly moist feeling on the back of my hand, but dry feeling to my fingertips. Worked perfectly. This is what Albey uses as well.
