Dirt in BP's Nose?

I was handling my BP tonight and I noticed he had a little spec of black in one of his nostrils. I have an albino so it stands out very easy. Should I be concerned or will he get it out on his own? I use cypress mulch for bedding.

I use cypress and she doesn't get dirt in her nose. By her nose, do you mean the little pits that they have? If there are black specs in the pits, it might be mites.

It is not on the side it is right on top of her face in one of the holes, I am assuming it is a nostril. It is a small piece but doesn't look like mites to me.

Your probably talking about the heat pits. Mites will normally hang around the head in neck area, looking for a nice spot underneath the scales, in the eyes, around the nose and heat pits. Double check to make sure that isn't a mite. If it helps to get it out, give your Ball python a bath and see if it goes away.

If your using cypress mulch then its not dirt in his nose.Its more then likely mites ;).I would remove everything and place paper towels down inside the enclosure and watch him for the little crawling devils.

x2. Give him a warm bath for a couple of hours and see if anything is floating around in the water. Do what Joe suggested. If you have him housed near any snakes I recommend putting him in quarantine for now until your 100% sure he doesn't have mites.

Also, I would like to say that you should post links of other people's photos besides showing them on here. If this image is on your account on a website like Photobucket please post the link.

There are products you can use without the need to seek a vet. I had mites on my second Ball python I purchased and I got rid of them within 2 weeks. You can use products such as Provent-A-Mite, JurassiMite, etc. that will get rid of the mites. First, make sure that your snake even has them before treating.

From what I've seen on this forum (I've never had mites), if it has even a 1% chance of being mites, treat for mites? Lol. Mites are awful from all I've read.
