Does anyone have pet insurance? Would like feedback/advice...
I am shopping around for pet insurance for my cat and my dog. I was wondering if anyone here could give me suggestions or reviews. The only issue I have is that the puppy is a Shetland Sheepdog. They have a genetic disposition to have eye problems, and a couple of the places I've looked at do not cover breed specific issues. I am leaning towards Petplan, as they cover everything. Thoughts?

And just because he's awesome, pic of Simba:

In most cases IMO insurance is a scam.

It's there to protect people against the worst of the worst situations, which really are hospital stays and losing your home.

Nothing else imo is financially destructive enough to provide any real benefit by having an insurance policy. Even car insurance, the biggest risk in a car accident is not the damage to your car but health costs due to injuries.

If there is no chance of you going bankrupt, insurance isn't going to provide any real protection for you, it is just going to cost you in the long run.

The fact is that having a dog will cost you, there will be health costs, and having pet insurance is certainly not going to be a 'free ride' for health costs.

Did I ever mention wanting a free ride anywhere? Or say I got this dog on a whim expecting to not pay a penny for him? I apologize if it came across like that.

In all honesty, he's a member of my family. He runs and plays like a big dog, I want to be prepared in case of an emergency. I don't have the $3k plus if he wakes up one day with a cloudy eye that he can't see out of and needs to be taken to surgery. I just wanted to see what other pet owners (especially here, where pets are family) do/think.
