    Quitting/resigning at work..
This is never something that I look forward to. Well, yes, I look forward to starting a new job, and living back home, now. But I hate, actually telling my boss that I will be leaving.

We are heading out of town this Monday; so if I tell him tomorrow, that's a week's notice. Kinda short IMO, butat least I am not no-showing.

How do you cope with telling your boss? I get along with him well, and I have a close friend that I work with too (who knows that I am leaving; just not, when.) Argh! I could tell him today, but I think that I will work-up my energy and do it tomorrow.

    :(

it isn't personal. it's life taking priorities over business. Don't get too worked up over it. :)

Tell them as early as possible. IT's a job, not personal. It's not like you're breaking up with him, you're quitting a job because you're MOVING. Unless he'd like to pay for the cross-america commute, I think it'll be okay.

I hope you read this before going to work...

I would write a letter explaining the financial burden and need to relocate.
Thank him and the company for all they have done and taught you.
And be sure to ask/tell him you would be honored to use him as a reference.
Which you will have to do anyway since it will be on your work history and resume.

You could also fib a little and say there is a family crisis with mom and such...
    Just a thought

Keep it professional and short and sweet. Like others said above, its not personal.

Definitely do it as soon as possible, you boss will appreciate and I feel that any employer is owed at least a good notice.

Well, it went rather well. :) Manager and coworkers are upset to see me go, but they understand. Thanks for the support. :)
