Moving from LA to SF. Best way to move snakes?
Next weekend I will be moving from LA to SF for work. Currently I only have a 4 foot red tailed boa, and a few months old ball python. What is the best/safest way to move them up there and keep their body temps up, etc. Its about a 5 hour drive or so. Thanks for any help :)

Plastic tubs or appropriately sized, insulated/cardboard boxes with head pads would be my best guess! Reptile basics has some great 40 hours head pads: http://www.reptilebasics.com/40-hr-d...heat_pack.html with insanely fast shipping if you order in time!

I do that trip all the time...
Large enough tub with lid (holes preferred)
Bags for snakes
Heat pack (40hr is more than enough)
Cushion, aka towel or paper towels or more snake bags..
Place animals in bags, bags in tub, heat pack in tub under cushion in tub.
Drive.
Enjoy.

Like they all say above, get a rubbermaid or sterilite that is the appropriate size, put the snake in a fabric bag or pillowsheet that is closed off to prevent escape, and have a heat pack in with the snake so that it doesn't get very cold for the snake.
Another thing that you could do is turn the heat on in the car before you put the snakes in there and let it get to around 85 degrees in the car. I have done this before, but it makes for a very hot ride for the driver.

Make sure you check with some of the members on here who live up in the SF area. I think they have some crazy laws up there...

Don't sweat it, I moved almost 100 snakes from NJ to AZ in August of 2007. No problems whatsoever. I also moved 2 clutches of eggs, one hatched in Indiana and one hatched about a month later, again no problems.

I just moved from Florida to Washington with my chondro's. Just like Robin said, pillow sacked snakes on a towel with a heat pack in a rubbermaid. Good luck with your move. A tortoise made the trip too.:gj: No complaints from anyone.

All you have to remember is that people ship snakes all the time across vast distances. Just treat them the same way as if they'd be shipped, only you don't have to worry about what container, as it's going with you. So a sterilite tub or sturdy box are fine, although a shipping box would work fine too(especially because it'd be insulated).
Driving with them, you don't have to worry about them being tossed about by a indifferent shipper! They should be prefectly comfy for the ride. Just make sure the ending place's cage is warmed up properly when you're ready to place them in the new home. Some temp fluctuations could happen, so you wanna be safe!
Make sure and check on the laws too, I think SF outlawed a lot of snakes.
