Was I right for doing this?
Well my bp is 1 1/2 years old now and i feed him a small rat once a week. I wanted to switch to f/t rats so what i did was I skipped one week of feeding and then got me a f/t rat and he took it great. That was 4 months ago, but now my question is would this be a good way to try to switch to f/t or should I have tried on the regular schedule. Well what I did is in the past but is the way I switched possibly a good way to do it or not recommended? I mean I know that they can go for long periods of time with out eating but what if what I did made him quit eating. If this would be a safe way to try to switch f/t from live then could this be a good way for stubborn live feeders to finally switch. I think I might just want to quit rambling on..... oh well nothing better to do on a black Friday.....
Re: Was I right for doing this?
As long as your snakes are eating it's fine lol
Re: Was I right for doing this?
Doesn't sound like a bad thing to me.
Re: Was I right for doing this?
Thats exactly what I did to get my oldest female on F/T. If the snake has good weight & thickness & is healthy it can go quite some time without eating.
Re: Was I right for doing this?
It's a good way to do it.:gj: Get your animal on a regular feeding schedule and then skip a couple meals. The animal is usually really hungry and there's a better chance it will eat F/T....especially if you bring live rodents in the room where it can smell them.
Re: Was I right for doing this?
It is fine to skip a meal and try the f/t. The snake will be more hungry by then and won't care if the meal is dead or alive. Ball pythons can go very long periods of time without food and still be perfectly fine. I have heard of one go off of feeding for a year then resume and be fine. Not suggested to keep them off feeding for extended periods of time, but they'll be fine.
Re: Was I right for doing this?
ya thats what i was thinking but reading all these treads no one ever mentions the way i did mines so i was wondering if it wasnt reccomended. i know it didnt effect the snake its self but mabey that what we should start telling the new bp owners to do when switching to f/t....
