    bathing your kitty
just had a quick question for you cat owners. i've only bathed my cat once since i had her, i used a cat specific bar soap that my roomate had for her sphinx cat. but the time has come again to trim her butt furs and give her a good wash.

i don't live with my roomate anymore, so i need to get some of this soap for myself. she's a himilayan half breed so shes really fluffy. does anyone know if any type would work better than another for her?? (any brand recommendations etc) or if anything house hold/for people is gentle enough for them? (i more than likely wouldn't use it, just wondering)

    this is her

You can get a kitty safe shampoo at most pet stores. Avoid Hartz and flea and tick shampoos if possible.

Take a empty bottle, and put 1/3 shampoo and 2/3 water, shake well. Use that as your shampoo, so it will rinse out easier. Rinse super well.

Make sure she's dry thoroughly before you let her out where there is drafts or cold air, as cats are notorious for getting respitory infections.

    Good luck!

What is funny about this is that my mother in law's cat, Sparkle, tries to climb into the dishwasher whenever its open. Maybe she wants a bath! :P

I sometimes use baby shampoo on my animals for bath time. Seems to work well for us. All but one of my cats tries to murder me during bath time. One cat actually requires me to get in the tub with him and hold him down. I still have scars from that bath.

the only time i ever bathed my cats were when they had fleas and we didnt have enough money to afford the flea medicine. she is a gorgeous cat by the way. i love long haired kitties! so you have to shave her booty too? i have to do that with my tiger(long haired maincoon mix) or he gets the "dreads" of poo on him:P

Edit: oh by the way i use head and shoulders when i did use to bath the cats. gets them sleak and shiny and flake free ;)

People shampoos are not safe for dogs or cats other than baby shampoo. If you dont have any cat shampoos, REGULAR Dawn or Ivory dish soap are safe and actually very effective on fleas if put on thick and left on for about five minutes. They are even safe enough for very young kittens. Cutie you have there!:D
