Proposed Cage Plan:

So I'm thinking about building this cage, I have all of the architectural drawings but here is a 'rough' 3d rendering that I did in photoshop. The cage is 30 inches long, 16 deep, 12 high. The idea of this is that the top of the cage opens, then for ease of cleaning the front can open as well.

Here's my idea: (It's constructed out of 2x2's)

Maybe a screen top isn't the best for maintaining heat and humidity within the cage...?

I would have it be all glass with no screen top. Ventilation could be achieved by drilling some holes in the sides of the glass.

Yes, I actually planned on doing a glass top with holes but was too lazy to update the drawing :$

Plexiglass would probably be cheaper, easier to work with,and less expensive. Nice design though!

Plexi glass is actually more expensive than glass. Since its treated and can withstand higher pressure before breaking. But i would also go with plexi glass as it is stronger and dont shatter.

the cage i started today is going to look very similar to that. but i was wondering, how will the UTH get heat through the wood bottom? D= am i going to have to put it in the enclosure?

Flamethrower is right. Plexiglass is definitely more costly, but will most definitely hold temps and humidity better. Use the same design, but use the plexi instead of glass, and use a piece of plexi on a hinge for your lid. Drill some holes in the plexi for vents and put a secure lock on it and bam. You got yourself a sleek and efficient enclosure!

Not to mention the fact that it's much more easy to work with (drilling holes for example) and it's less breakable.

I made myself a custom enclosure out of plexiglas and wood (sliding doors). It's been more than 3 years since I made it, and I'm still happy with it.
