Feeder Sizes

So does anyone else have this problem? I go into the store and ask for 10 of the largest mice they can find. They put a bunch in the bag and tell me these are their large mice. I also get 4 small rats. I get home and decide to weigh them and what do you know.....they are too small! Each mice is weighing in at around 11-13g. I consider that a hopper mouse. The small rats...40-60g. That is a rat wean, not a small rat. :mad: Now, I'm paying $1.5 for each of those "large mice", and $3 for each "small rat". I consider a large mouse to be in the 25-30g mark. Small rats >100g.

This is a new store I'm going to and I don't think I like this store one bit. The feeders are almost always bloody. I go to it because it's closer. The other store we go to usually has appropriately sized mice and rats but its a 20-30 min drive.

Here is a chart for sizing! http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/feede...ize-chart.html I do think you are getting ripped off! I get rat pups (25 grams) for $1.50 and small rats (60-70 grams) for $2.25! If it was me, I would make the drive to get the better quality feeders! Good luck!

I had a very similar problem here, until I started asking to pick out the feeders myself or at least show me what they looked like because they a large rat would sometimes be a small rat the next day at the price of a large one.

Now I make sure I pick out the ones I want, or have them show me what the size I'm requesting looks like. Good luck.

A good reptile store will ask you if the rat is a good size for you before they package it up! Some staff may not know what size you really mean! Once I went into the store and asked for a rat pup but he showed me a rat pinky! New staff so I had to explain the sizes to him because he was left in the store alone and did not know the sizes!
