Coconut Husk Update-Increasing Humidity-Second Shed

Hello Everyone

I wanted to share with all of you that using Coconut Husk in an aquarium setup is working out amazingly. Since using it my bp had an amazing shed. He shed out one complete piece from the tip of his nose, to the end of his tail. I now rarely have to mist and when I do, I don't have to mist for at least a week later.

I should point out that during his last shed I did add some moss to his hide to keep that area moist. After the shed I removed the moss. During the shed his aquarium had a humidity of 78%, when I removed the moss, the humidity is sitting at 60%.

So again, I like Coconut Husk, and will keep on using it.

i'm also really promoting the coconut husk! my girls enjoy covering themselves under it.. i get the small chip and in a big bag so i dont have to do anything crazy like soak it in water, i think thats ridiculous, all i have to do is spray it down every 3 days or so and it holds the humidity more consistently at 60%.. it soaks up urine really well and still keeps a nice scent and prevents mold from forming longer than any of the leading brands and trust me i've tried them all.. i still keep sphagnum moss under the hides!!

Does anyone know what major pet stores carry the Coconut Husk substrate? I would love to try it out cause i have a rough time keeping the humidity up during shed time...

Are you using the same stuff that's in the video or are you using something like eco earth? The stuff that's in the video is WAY more chunky than the eco earth that is fine ground and not chips. I am thinking of trying the chips!

I use both the Coconut husk and Eco Earth with no complaints for my snakes and my Tegus.

I used coconut husk in a small bowl as my first attempt to increase humidity. Tossed it when I found it mildewing. Now I use spagnum moss, no problem with it at all.

:snake:'s Love the Eco-Earth. I use it for corns, BRB's and BP's. Except for the biggest cages it works great. The stuff at the hydroponics stores isn't bad but dries out quicker. Would like to be able to get the fine milled stuff that's commercially available in the 50kg importer bricks. Anyone want to go in on a 10,000 unit minimum order? Lol!

Coco Husk is great bedding if your snake needs a good bit of humidity, and if they tend to burrow. My White Lip Python I had, when I first got her I kept her in cypress mulch, then she started to burrow under the substrate, and she ended up have some wood stab her in the gums, so I had to get rid of the cypress mulch, and that's when I switched to CoCo Husk, and it worked out like a charm, not only does it hold moisture good, I didn't have to worry about taking wood out of her mouth, which I don't have her anymore, but just thought I'd make the statement.
