I want a baby redtail. Help me out?
I have done A LOT of research online and everyone changes something when it comes to care and husbandry. So out of all of you BP.net members that have RTBs...what to you reccommend and what works for you? I live in north jersey where it gets slightly chill and I only use tubs. I dropped tanks a while ago. This will be my first RTB. Not my first snake I have a few Balls around :)

I don't use tubs with my boas.
I started my 09 baby in a 5 gal reptile tank with uht and thermostat.
Pretty soon he'll go in a 20 long with a uht and thermostat.
By the end of next year he'll be in a 4'x2'x12" cage.
    Just what I use....

A male or a small female can easily be kept in one of the largest underbed tubs. Or, this time of year, they're selling the large, long Xmas tree storage tubs... those work great too, if you're not into tanks at all. This guy sells them too: http://reptiletubs.com/ They're the VE series, but I think you could probably find them cheaper at Wal-mart.

Follow the caresheet here. It won't lead you off the beaten path... and if you ever have any specific questions, there's always the forum :)

Ummm, tell me what tub size this one would fit in.

Some females get big and housing can become an issue if you didn't plan ahead for what you want to do about that. Granted it takes awhile and young boas can do well in either appropriate and very secure tubs or tanks but it's something to think about.

I'm in New Jersey too, it doesn't get too cold provided your room temp isn't like freezing or something. I've found that glass tanks are complete crap for holding temp and my ball python in her 20L needs a heat lamp on the cool side to keep it in the low 80s with the uth on the hot side in the 90s. The boas? They're in a melamine rack with 41qt sterilites with 11" flexwatt for heat. With the herpstat controlling it all they are fine temperature wise even in winter.

Go to the White Plains show on Sunday. It's less than an hour from Newark. You can get your snake there and talk to a breeder to get all the expert advice you'll need. You can also pick up anything you'll need to house it.:gj:
