    Get my first BOA tomorrow
Well i went to the Herp expo today and fell in love with this little RTB and after talking to the guy and handling all his snakes i told him i wanted it. Its on hold for me till tomorrow morning. I have a few qustions about a boa's needs

    1) Humidity? What kind of humidity do boas need? I have my BP a constant 50-60% and my chameleons are also 55-70% with 90+% at misting. He is going to be in a 20L tank with shredded aspen substrate so i just need to know how moist to keep it.

    2) Hot side heat? Is 90* too hot? I kepe my BPs 89-93 on a thermostat and i jsut need to know what i have to set my spare one to for my boa. What should cold side temps be?

thats all i have questions for right now :D

    thanks

90 is pretty toasty out guys are at about 88 at the highest, but they don't hang out on the warm side all the time.

our humidity is set to about 60-70% and all have shed perfectly everytime.

have you looked at the care sheet one this site yet?- it provides good info on their upkeep :)

cant wait to see pics :D

i couldnt find the caresheet until i posted and then it stuck out to me in like font 1000000 bold letters

one thing, do Boa's like to have 2 or 3 sides of the tank coverd like BPs? my bookshelf is black, well my room is, but my bookshelf is black and shadowy so its where i keep my BPs cuz they feel better when there is less light. Can i keep my boa there or will i have to keep him on my bed table?

Set your thermostat at 88 on the hot spot.
I think your humidity will be fine.
    Let's see pics tomorrow!

I do 90-92 for my hot spot with 60% humidity and 80-82 cool end.

the boa should be fine on the bookshelf with the ball pythons. I find that boas dont' stress as easily as ball pythons and are a lil more forgiving in husbandry. (and they eat like pigs- but that could just be the boas i've seen....) :D

well i picked him up today!

I got a 20 gallon flat cage, aspen, a bowl, a heat pad thermometer a piece of wood and my little guy for $80. Gotta love expos! :D

Im waiting for my camera batter to charge, i accidently left it on on the way to the expo today and it died before i got there :( So pictures will be up shortly. He is about 18-20" and really docile, i know it wasnt the smartest move on my part but when i got him i wanted to see just how nippy he was and he didnt pull his head back till about 2" away from the base of his head if you slowly ran your finger up his spine starting from anout 1/2 way. Im stoked, and would have gladly traded a little nip of the figner to find out where my starting point was going to be.

he has been in his setup all day hotside average was 87* after the pad got warmed up and i messed with my rheostat to get the hotside good (double checked my thermometer with my temp gun) and humidity started at a solid 65% and hung there for a few hours and now after 12 hours its down to 56% so every 12 hours a quick spritz will have to be made, but its when i have to mist my chameleons so its not a big deal at all :)

    pitctures shortly

I have not been on much but just figured i would point out that an 88 hot end is to cool your hot spot should at least be 90.

Nah, 88 is fine. Nothing wrong with 90 either, but you're getting alot closer to it being too hot.
