Success!! Switching to f/t at 5 years old.
A little background info... I adopted my 5-6 year old female BP (Gogo) in August. Her previous owner was far from perfect and (in my opinion) made lots of mistakes, including feeding habits. Gogo was fed 1-2 small live mice every 1-2 weeks, "or so". Gogo was never introduced to a rat or f/t. At 5 years old and 4 1/2 feet long she weighed roughly 1100-ish grams.

I made drastic changes to Gogo's life once I adopted her, so I wanted to take it slow when changing her diet to prevent stress and possible hunger strike. At first, I upped the number & size of live mice. Over time, I introduced her to an 80g live rat, which she was very excited about. I hated feeding her rats because I was worried even the small ones would bite her. I had dreams of switching her to f/t so she could eat larger prey and get to a normal healthy weight faster... But I had big doubts she would tolerate f/t food.

Her first introduction to a frozen/thawed rat went perfectly!! I heated his head to about 90F, made him do a zombie rat dance to get her interest and she grabbed him- really hard too! Startled me how hard she hit, guess I wasn't expecting her enthusiasm lol.

Today was her second f/t feeding, and it was equally as perfect as the first. Hopefully it'll be smooth sailing from here in the weight gain department! She is currently up to 1320g empty :)

Sorry for the long post, I'm just very excited! :D Here's a current (and cute!!) picture of Gogo :)

    awesome to hear!

is Gogo a pastel? she looks like my adult male pastel. could just be the lighting though, if she's not.

    Congrats. :D

I switched an 8 year old girl recently as well. She seems to be in good hands, and she is an ABSOLUTE stunner. What a beautiful snake you have there.

Aw, thanks so much guys! :D I find her to be quite the pretty girl also :)

Katia - Gogo is not a pastel, she's just a cute normal with lots of blushing :) The photo is fairly true to her real colors.
