Yellow spotted salamander rescue
My friend uncovered a yeloow spotted salamander this weekend and his daughter brought it inside. It was hibernating, now its active again. I talked him out of puttin it back outside and am waiting for him to bring it over.
I have a ten gallon aquarium that was empty and now i have moss a small hide and a water dish and some fake plant cover in it. The salamander is small he said maybe a juvenile. My question is do i need any heat in the tank and what does the lil guy eat? Do i need more than one hide and do they require any uv light?
Thanks in advance normally i'd do a lil research but if he put it back outside it'd most likely not make it.

Re: Yellow spotted salamander rescue
You may feed the salamander worms, as in earth worms, but if he is small chop them up to a appropriate size

Hey everyome so i got the lil fellow today and he is little. Like maybe two inches. ? Do i need to give em calcium supplement or anything. He seems happy right now and i was gonna get some worms tomorrow amd feed em.
He is a cute lil guy for sure.

Re: Yellow spotted salamander rescue
Do you still have the guy?
No they dont need heat. They actually like it a bit cooler. they also like a substrate they can dig in, I use this block of stuff that I add water to. I feed mine red wigglers, earth worms and crickets. I do dust them with calcium powder every couple of feedings to make sure they are getting enough. When they are kept in captivity calcium deficiency is a problem. They dont need special lighting either, just ambient light.
I hope you will find a nice safe spot to release him come spring.
