what is the minimum HEIGHT of a dispay cage for a adult ball python...
..to live and have a cofortable life.

I, like most everyone else that collects ball pythons am hooked, badly.
there are so many beautiful morphs available.
But I am limited on space available and i realy do not care for the tub systems althouth i have one now, temporarily, for my 4 '09 little ones.
I prefer glass front, lighted, custom, display cages that i build myself.

So in order to maximize my collection in the space i have available,
I will be building costom display cages.

I have pretty much decided that the floor dimensions will be either 44"
or 42'' long x 16" or 18" wide, but I can't decide on the hieght.

Since Ball Pythons spend so much time in burrows of other anamals under ground, the height does not need to be that high. I am
hung up on how high is "that high".

any input into this plan from you experienced Pall Python hobbists would be gratly appreciated and welcomed.

I do realize that a tub system affords the maximun number of animals that can be kept in a small area, but this is out of the queston for me.

thank you very much for taking the time to read this and provide me with information.

Since most tubs in racks are no more than about 6" I guess that would be the minimum height that you'd need. I have an RBI cage that's 14" tall and that much height is really a waste of space to be honest. My BP doesn't do anything besides hide in one of his two hides. I even have an area in the middle of the cage with wood that has some height to it, but he never uses it. The only time he gets vertical is at night and he's really just looking for a way out.

I would think 12-14 inches would be good. As was already mentioned, anything more is just wasted space...

I would say 10-12" would be enough.

    10-12" is fine.

They can be happy in 6", but that wouldn't be as appropriate for a display cage.

I would say 12 inches, since you're looking for a display cage. Ball pythons are generally not arboreal, though they occasionally climb a bit. They tend to be, 90% of the time, a terrestrial species.

I have big adult girls(3500+ grams) in 8 inch tall enclosures and they have plenty of room.

I would like to thank everyone for your input.
    I have pretty much decided on 40" L x 18" W x 10" H inside dimensions.

Now I just need to figure out what size flexwatt to use inside on the floor.
(there will be a glass sub floor raised 1/4" off the plywood floor (thank you, Jenn for this idea)).

Any additional comments would be greatly appreciated.

    thank you
