    Help with stuck eyecaps, please!
Last time he shed, Sangre's spectacles stuck. I bathed him a few times, dabbed at them with a warm cloth, no luck. I figured, he's young and growing quickly, he'll get them off during his next shed.

Well, he shed yesterday and now he's got two layers of spectacles. Now I really need to get them off. Soaks aren't helping, and there's no way I'm using any kind of oils. I don't trust any "miracle solutions". I'm reluctant to do the Scotch tape strategy, but I will if I have to.

Any ideas? All input appreciated. :)

Use the rubber finger guards.. something like these.http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/sh...ump&navCount=3
They make some better ones with traction. Place on thumb and very gently kind of roll your thumb oacross the eye

i dont have experience with that but after reading a lot it is usually recommended to take them to a vet for the retained eye cap after the next shed

Thanks, guys. :) I'm going to try a few more things, but if I can't get them off soon, I won't hesitate to take him to our vet.

My old vet sat there for about 20 minutes trying to get one of my snakes eyecaps off.
Needless to say, it didn't work.

You can try some contact solution or some eye-drop saline solution on the eyes with a q-tip and then use the rubber finger guards, or soak before using the guards.

Good luck, let us know what works!

I saw a vet one time use scotch tape to remove some eye caps.Really freaked me out. It worked but i wouldn't reccomend it. I would soak it in a tub of warm water with a couple drops of hand soap and a bath towel for 2 hours. Then ring out the towel and hold the snake in the towel. Let him crawl through it and lightly place it over his head so he has to struggle through it. The side to side motion will work them off.

I use a 6qt tub for small snakes and a 28qt sterilite tub.
Soak the snake for 30 minutes in a closed tub with 85 degree water.
Place a towel or pillow case in the water, add snake and let sit for 30 minutes, then replace the water and let the snake sit for another 30 minutes.
The eye caps should come off easily if they haven't already.
If there is multiple stuck eye caps repeat this again after the next shed.

    No soap needed ;)
