    trouble heating tub
I have a 34 quart tub that I am trying to heat with a UTH on a dimmer. The hot side is not going above 75. I am trying to get everything right before I bring the snake home. Is there something that I am doing wrong? The dimmer is almost turned on the highest setting. Should I turn it up another notch? I will be investing in a good thermostat very soon. I am saving up the money right now.

Are you sure you are switching the dimmer the right way?

If you are using a reptile dimmer, it might just be a piece of crap.

Have you tried plugging just the thermostat in to see if it isn't the UTH that is causing the problems?

Thank you for your response. I am using a lamp dimmer. I have it turned up almost as far as it goes. I tested the UTH without the dimmer and it gets very hot. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the UTH itself. Obviously I have to have some form of a control on the UTH, is there something else that you recommend I use? I can go purchase a reasonably priced thermostat if I have to for the time being.

Test the dimmer on a lamp to determine which direction is hotter and which is cooler. It is the opposite of what you think would be right.

If you have the Lutron dimmer, when the light is all the way on, the UTH would be coolest.

Thank you for the advice. I do in fact have the Lutron dimmer and I did not realize that at all. I will see if this makes a difference.
