Reptiles vs. Blackouts...?
I want to know what YOU would do if you had a quantity of reptiles and had a blackout with NO POWER. I just had one and it reminded me what i would do if it was for a long period of time...
Re: Reptiles vs. Blackouts...?
Nothing, or hook up a generator.
If I open the tubs they will lose some of the heat.
Re: Reptiles vs. Blackouts...?
If their heat ran dangerously low then, hygiene issues aside, I'd probably put them in cloth bags (same size ones go together,) line my bed with a plastic covering, and stick them all with me under a few layers of blankets.
Heat up some hot water bottles (using gas heaters/fireplace) and we'll all have a giant reptile slumber party.
I'd recruit family members into this too.
But this would only be a few hours/one day thing if it was in the winter. I'd have to figure out some other way if it lasted for longer than a day.

If it starts to get really cold you can put some hot water bottles (just plastic bottles filled with hot tap water) in the cages and it'll warm up the cage/tubs.
Re: Reptiles vs. Blackouts...?
Hot hands and or the disposable heating pads, they last between 8-12 hours. I have never been in that situation but things happen and I keep some around just in case. :gj:
Re: Reptiles vs. Blackouts...?
If you have no power and generator, how do you heat up the water? If you have a generator you can warm up the room or the snakes.
Re: Reptiles vs. Blackouts...?
24 hr heat packs are your friends!

The water inside a water heater will stay warm for hours.

Thats great, but who is concerned for only a few hours? The temps in the tub and room shouldnt drop to fast in a few hours unless you keep going in and out.
