Hypo Hogg Island Boa question...
I just received (in trade) some Hypo Hogg Island Boa's, but I no little to nothing about this type of boa.
I was looking on kingsnake and someone selling some hypo hogs said they are also known as het sunsets.
Can someone explain that to me?
Thanks,
Brandon
Re: Hypo Hogg Island Boa question...
A Sunset boa is just another name for a Super Hypo Hogg. They call them Sunsets because the Hoggy trait tends to bring out more of an orangy color than regular Super Hypo boas.
If you breed two Hypo Hoggs together, you'll get some Super Hypo Hoggs (aka Sunsets).
They aren't really true "hets." The Hypo trait is codominate, so if you breed a hypo to a normal, you get 50% hypos, 50% normals. If you breed a hypo to a hypo, you get 50% supers, 50% hypos.
Re: Hypo Hogg Island Boa question...
Sounds good. Thanks. I think I will take some pics so you can give me your opinion on them; i.e., if they look like hypo hogs, etc.
Thanks,
Brandon
Re: Hypo Hogg Island Boa question...
OK, here are some pics of what I believe are hypo hogs & Salmontines...
Let me know if they are what they seem to be. I am much more good at things related to Ball Pythons. When it comes to boas, I need a little help :)
Hypo Hogs? (the bottom one is in shed)

I also got these in trade, and I was told they are Salmontine Boas

Thanks for checking em out.

Re: Hypo Hogg Island Boa question...
Any takers? Any thoughts are welcome.
Re: Hypo Hogg Island Boa question...
I'd say the top pic boas are probably hypo hoggies... the orange gives it away, plus they lack a lot of black in their tail saddles (trademarks of hypos). Not so sure about the salmontines... I don't know a whole lot about them. But they are definitely hypos, as well, and their darker color has a hint of argentine to it.
Re: Hypo Hogg Island Boa question...
Salmontines are always hard to tell if you don't know the parents. I've seen a couple of salmontine that look nothing like their Argentine boa or Colombian hypo parents! Nive hypos whatever they are - love the reduced pattern.
