Grow out tubs tips????

I have been trying to find something to use as growup tubs for my baby rats to raise them until they are the sizes my snakes need. Does anyone have any tips of how to do this a cost effective way? I was thinking of maybe rigging some large rubbermaid containers?

If you're using a rack system with mixing tubs, just set up as many as needed to house your feeders.

Do you know about how many I could put in one tub without them being overcrowded and fighting?

It depends on size.

With weaners you could easily get 50 in a tub. But as they grow you need to thin the numbers down.

I don't have numbers, I just sort of fill the tubs and then thin them down as the rats grow.

Experience really is your best teacher here. You've got the basics, now just make enough rats to fill your tubs and happiness should be achieved.

Here is one of our grow out racks..I want to say that we get between 40-50 weaners + moms in these tubs with no problem.

The tub we use is the big mortar tub from Home Depot. Look for the ones without the key hole slot cut in them in the handle on the end, or cover the slot with metal flashing to prevent chewing. We are in the process of building two more racks. One with smaller mortar tubs. We are using the smaller tub for resting moms.

I house 20 weaners in a CB30 to give you an idea
