    Help with some hide ideas
    Hey

I currently have a 3x2 RBI cage with RBI's plastic black hides that they sell.

I love this cage very much..esp with the RHP. My one complaint is the hides...they are made of a very light weight plastic. MY big boy fits very very snug in it but since I've had the cage...he has grown and since there is the hides are very light..wen he goes in it..they lift right up and eventually he'll be sprawled out in his cage with the cage covering half his body.

I believe this is why he has been off feed lately.

ANyone have any ideas of whhat I can do to keep the hides securely down but be able to easily remove them for when I clean the cage?? I was thinking baout putting somethingon top the hides to make thjem heavier but I have a RHP so my heat comes from above so that idea will not work.

    thanks for any input

    Hi,

You could try replacing them with overturned flowerpots with an entrance chipped (and sanded smooth ) out of them?

I went to go look at flower pots today..I couldn't find any that are the right size..they were either too tall or too wide/circular. There were some that would def fit..but the cage would be wayy too cluttered

I also feel since I"M using a RHP that using thick clay pots would be har dto get my underhide temps correct w/o scorching the rest of the cage.

maybe I can screw them down?? but that would be annoying everytime I have to clean and stuff.

I use the 8 inch clay pots They've always worked well for me. Make sure you get the under part that catches the water, not the actual flower pot. Course maybe you could try placing a rock on top of the plastic hide to weigh it down.

Also one I like is to take a big dog bowl and cut a whole in it, kinda makes a holo ring. I use this for colubrids though not pythons.

A piece of PVC pipe could work to. Maybe add a potted plant inside so he can hide behind the foliage?

I like the idea of having the hides with holes cut in the top.... Like a shallow plastic bowl with the a hole cut in the bottom and overturned. Seems to me like every time the snake goes in it wont be pushing it around because it will be lying ontop of it as it goes inside. Just my thoughts with no actual experiance yet...... :P couple more days and I'll have some though

If you need a bigger hide you can also buy a couple of appropriate sized cat litter boxes and cut holes in them and they may be a little heavier also...
