    selayar or sulawesie
i had bought two female retics that are selayar dwarfs i know the guy who breeds here in my town ,,,, and they are papered and every thing they both were 04 imports ,, any ways his female had layed a nice little clutch of 15 and when they hatched i had bought two of them that were different form all the others thinking that they might produce something new in the future ,,,, but i just i have had them up for sale and people comment on the pics and say that they are sulawesies and i get mad because they came from two 6-7 foot adult selayars,,, so what or how can i tell what they are...? i dont know how to put my pics on here ,,,, but ill keep on trying to put them on here

thank you very much and hope you can help

They honestly do have more of a Sulawesi-appearance than any sort of dwarf locale, including Selayar. I've seen a lot more Sulas than Selayars (very rare in the trade), and these snakes do look like Sulas to me. The dorsal pattern and head-color and shape are quite distinctive.

What type of "papers" or other proof do you have? If it all appears legit, you should be able to back up whatever you are trying to sell... Also, how much you paid for these snakes is a good indicator. Selayars will be very costly compared with Sulas.

Biggest issue I see here is, obviously you don't want to misrepresent the locale, but Sulas are some of, if not the BIGGEST locale of retics out there, while Selayars are quite small, there's a huge discrepancy between the two. Also, the Retic Ranch in Florida is supposedly the only group that is captive breeding Selayar animals in the US, so a private breeder in KS may be difficult to verify... Take into account also, the fact that there are plenty of folks out there mis-marketing normal mainland locales of retics as dwarves, when they actually are not, or are 50/50 crosses, etc. I see this all too often.

Personally, I wouldn't be able to purchase those animals as dwarves at all, unless I had very reliable, personal info on the parents of the animals...because these do look very much like Sulas to me...

When did they hatch? What is the approx length? Size in relation to age can give you a pretty good idea of genetic influence/locale. Dwarf babies are considerably smaller than mainland babies, especially Sulas...
