    Help with caging
Hey im planning on getting a ball python this fall and i have a chameleon cage i used to use in the basement. Im wondering if i could use this for my python?
its has a big ground area, enough for the snake, the only thing is that it is about 3 feet tall. Is with a problem for stuff such as heating, etc?

    ,thanks

is it a screen chameleon cage? if so...it will not work well because they do not hold humidity well. also...being 3 feet tall, it will be somewhat difficult to keep an adequate ambient temperature.

Go with a ten gallon tank or a tub. A chameleon enclosure will not be suitable for a ball python.

For a 3 footer you could prob just go to a 20L and fill it with stuff if you need to. No screen cages.

Honestly, the materials to set up a purpose-built snake tub are so cheap, I wouldn't even try with the chameleon cage -- go to Walmart and buy a $5 tub and a $13 thermometer/hygrometer combo, then buy an under-tank heater and rheostat for $30ish. Add some newspaper or other substrate, a water bowl and some hides, and drill some air holes, and you've got a great snake enclosure for under $60.

burn air holes with a soldering gun, drilling holes may crack the plastic

The cage isnt all screen, its made out of glass it just has a screen door and screen top. The only reason i wanted to use this one is because it will also look quite nice with decorations

The problem with your cage is that its 3ft tall. Ball pythons are ground dwellers and they aren't going to utilize the full height of your tank.

You mention the ground area is big enough for the snake but is it big enough to provide a proper cool and warm side temperature? I personally think its a waste to have a 3ft tall enclosure for an animal that spends most of its adult life at ground level.

So i measured it accurately and it turns out it is a foot wide, 2 feet long and 2 and a half feet tall and again it is mostly glass. Whaddya think?

Its too tall. It is not suitable for a ball python. You will find yourself constantly fighting to keep temps and humidity at adequate levels.

If you have an arboreal cage, get an arboreal animal.
