    Incubator
I am picking an old dorm room fridge to convert to my first incubator. I have the basic plans already, but my question is what is the temperature gauge you use to monitor the internal temperature of the incubator with out opening it.

I just used a thermometer with a probe. Drilled a small hole, run the probe through it and set the thermometer on the top of the fridge.

A good reliable thermostat is the single most important piece of equipment for your incubator, I would recommend something more reliable than ZooMed Repti-Temp, go with Helix or Herpstat worth every penny.

Has anyone used a ranco....I am a little short on funds to spend the 120+ for a helix this year just trying to get through this year as my learning curve. I found a ronco that is digital for about 50

it might work, but a proportional thermostat is recommended to keep solid temps

I would spend the money on the Helix. Also look at it this way if you don't have the money to spend on a more costly T-stat then what will you do when your girl gets egg bound and needs to go to the vet?

Not saying you shouldn't breed just a thought that might help you later on.
