Rats in my room With Snakes!
Ok so im in college live in an apartment i keep my 3 BPs in my room in a rack. I was wondering i wanted to breed small amounts of rats say maybe 1 male 1 female or 1 male 2 females just for feeding my bps would it be a problem smell wise and houseing wise to keep them in my room on top of my rack in a glass terrarium type thing! Idk what the smell is going to be like but i hear it is better then mice and its not like theres going to be a lot of them running around! What do you think?

honestly i think someone would notice. but with 3 snakes its really not worth breeding your own. if they will take F/T that would be a much better option
Re: Rats in my room With Snakes!
I believe live is what im going to stick with. And the only other option for live is find a breeder which i havent been able to find yet and 2 get them from the pet store which is going to come out to about $15 a week which i find a little rediculous. I think im mostly worried about the smell how bad would it be in a class terrarium in a room if the bedding and such was changed frequently and would it make my snakes more aggresive?
Re: Rats in my room With Snakes!
The smell isn't terrible, but I would suggest using something besides a tank. I've had nothing but bad luck with tanks for two reasons: 1 it turns into a suana of stink because the only air flow is the vent on top, 2 they can easily escape tanks even with good lids. Mine chewed through the plastic lock. Oh and they also eat the heck out of a perfectly good water bottle/wather bottle holder.
I use plastic tubs that have vents on the top and I cut out a square on the side and attach 1/2 square wire. This way I can attach the water bottle outside of the tank.

x2 what Isis said...
I started breeding my own rats when I had 3 snakes, so it is do-able...
Re: Rats in my room With Snakes!
I raise rats, mice and snakes all in the same room. All my mice and rats are in tanks and I have never had any problems. The smell will not make your snakes more agreessive. The only thing I would be concerned with is how you will get rid of large uneaten rats. If just one snake goes off feed, you will only need two medium size rats a week. With a litter of a dozen or more, by the time you get to the end of the litter they may be too large for your snakes.
Re: Rats in my room With Snakes!
Ya i thought about that too and if it comes to the point where i dont htink i can feed them all off in time. I know some people around here who could use them as feeders or ill just freeze them where i think i need to. My female rat just had her babies today when i got back from the pet store. First time for me kind of exciting!

Why not transfer to F/T? Safer for the snakes..
