    Too Freaking Cute
to feed off - so I didn't! I picked up some feeders yesterday, and as I was loading them in the car, I spotted her - checked to make sure she was a female and made the guy go get me one more rat, because I knew I was keeping her! I haven't had any himalayans, and decided I wanted to raise her up to be a future breeder.

Does anyone know if the himalayan gene is recessive or dominant?

Here's the cutie pie - who's as sweet as she is cute! And her butt really has that tan coloration, it's not urine stains:

Affirmative! Wait - maybe not the AA you're thinking, but it also goes by AA.

    Hi, Robin!

That is a cute rat - IIRC, the Himalayan gene is recessive, and its expression is thermally controlled. (The points are darker because they're cooler.) I've got himalayans (without tanned butts) in my colony - including some dumbo rexes that I recently held back. As fuzzies, they're often whitish over the front half of their bodies, and dark on the back half - the front half is kept warm while nursing under momma's belly, while the exposed back half is cooler! I've read that a good outcross for the Himalayan gene is to a self black, which help with the intensity of the points.

    Enjoy working with her!
